Do you love acronyms? Of course you do. Let me give you one that you’re going to want to write down and remember.

Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.) is the highly anticipated and hyped creation of former Chiodos frontman, Craig Owens. Though his name is synonymous with the aforementioned lot, Owens, along with a talented cast, has done a fantastic job of separating himself from Chiodos.

Owens has aligned himself with some well known names in the post hardcore/screamo world that makes D.R.U.G.S. an addiction you won’t look to kick anytime soon. Even better, they are friends of his. A pretty smart move considering big drama brought his time with Chiodos to an end.

Okay, I promise not to mention Chiodos anymore. At least for now.

For the self titled debut album Owens teamed up with guitarists Matt Good (From First To Last) and Nick Martin (Underminded), bassist Adam Russell (Story Of The Year), and drummer Aaron Stern (Matchbook Romance). Good also puts his talents to good use on the keyboards and synthesizers (I can only hope that he breaks out a keytar on stage. That would be epically hilarious!).

Now, to the music.

Owens is on point as usual. His dynamic screams have always separated him from others in the genre. Good and Martin bring punch and energy on guitar while Russell and Stern set the pace.

The album as a whole has a catchy/pop feel to it. Please, don’t let that scare you off. I assure you, it is plenty heavy.

“Stop Reading, Start Doing Pushups” is filled with gut wrenching screams, aggressive guitar, and thumping drums. If you’re looking for a reason to put your fist through a wall, this track is all the motivation you’ll need.

“I’m Here to Take the Sky” is the catchy feel good anthem on the record. It’s meant for the mainstream. Imagine yourself driving your car on a sunny day, windows down, with the wind blowing through your hair in slow motion while blasting this through your radio speakers (Radio? We still have those?).

Or just drink, dance, and bowl with your friends… whatever, you get what I’m layin’ down.

“Graveyard Dancing” might be my personal favorite. This has The Nightmare Before Christmas, wreaking havoc with Jack Skellington written all over it. Tim Burton and Danny Elfman would be proud.

All in all, this is a great first effort from D.R.U.G.S. However you get your hands on music, whether it’s buying, stealing, murder (I’m not here to judge you), go out and get your hands and ears on this.

D.R.U.G.S. from Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows earns 4/5 Lines of Coke.
